2015年東京で結成。池貝峻、篠田ミル、大井一彌、山田健人の４人編成。エレクトロニックをベースとしたサウンド、ボーカルを担当する池貝の美しいハイトーンボイス、映像作家としても活躍する山田の映像演出を含むアグレッシブなライブパフォーマンスで注目を集める。2016年、ロンドンの老舗ROUGH TRADEを含む全5箇所での欧州ツアー、フジロックフェスティバル〈Rookie A Go Go〉ステージへの出演を経て、11月にデビュー・アルバム『Flesh and Blood』を発表。翌2017年には、フジロックフェスティバル〈Red Murquee〉ステージに出演、さらにWarpaint、Mount Kimbie、alt-Jら海外アーティストの来日ツアーをサポートし、2018年3月に、さらに進化した彼らが自身のアイデンティティを突き詰め、よりクリアで強固なものとして具現化することに挑んだセカンドアルバム『Human』をリリース。その直後のSXSW出演を経て、フランスのフェス、韓国・中国に渡るアジアツアー、SUMMER SONICなどに出演。同9月にはシングル「TAO」をリリース。楽曲、ミュージックビデオの両方を通じて、yahyelの芸術表現が完全に別次元に突入したことを証明した。同じく11月には水曜日のカンパネラとのコラボ楽曲「生きろ」をリリース。2019年には再びSXSWに出演、数多くの海外メディアに紹介されるなど、ますますグローバルな動きを見せている。

Formed in Tokyo in 2015, yahyel consists of four members: Shun Ikegai, Miru Shinoda, Kazuki Ooi, and Kento Yamada. They have attracted attention for their aggressive live performances, which include electronic-based sounds, the beautiful high tones of vocalist Ikegai, and exquisite visual direction crafted by Yamada (who is also active as a filmmaker). In 2016, after a European tour where they performed at five venues, including the long-established ROUGH TRADE in London, and an appearance on the Rookie A Go Go stage of Fuji Rock Festival, they announced their debut album, Flesh and Blood, in November. In 2017, they performed on the Red Marquee stage of Fuji Rock Festival and supported foreign artists such as Warpaint, Mount Kimbie, and alt-J during their Japan tours. In March 2018, they released their second album, Human, in which they tried to communicate their evolved identity in a clearer and stronger way. Afterwards, they performed at SXSW, a music festival in France, concerts in Korea and China, and Summer Sonic. In September, they released a new single, “Tao”, in which they demonstrated a new level of artistic expression in both music and video. In November of the same year, they also collaborated with Wednesday Campanella to release a song titled “Ikiro”. In 2019, they have been showing increasingly global movement, appearing once again at SXSW and frequently being introduced by overseas media outlets.
