LA出身のプロデューサー、フライング・ロータスことスティーヴン・エリソン。大叔父にモダンジャズの名サックスプレイヤーのジョン・コルトレーン、そしてその妻でありジャズミュージシャンのアリス・コルトレーンを大叔母に持つ。LAビートシーンの最重要人物にして、サンダーキャットやテイラー・マクファーリン、ティーブスらを輩出した人気レーベル〈Brainfeeder〉を主宰。2010年の『Cosmogramma』、2012年の『Until The Quiet Comes』、そして世界各国で自己最高のセールスを記録し、その年を代表する名盤として高い評価を受けた2014年の『You're Dead!』などのアルバムを通して、その評価を絶対的なものとする。2017年には、自ら手がけた映画『KUSO』の公開や、渡辺信一郎監督の短編アニメーション『ブレードランナー ブラックアウト 2022』の音楽を手がけるなど、その活躍の場をさらに広げている。

Steven Ellison, AKA Flying Lotus, is a producer from Los Angeles. He’s the grand-nephew of the famous saxophonist John Coltrane and the jazz musician Alice Coltrane. He’s also a key member of the LA beat scene and the founder of the popular record label Brainfeeder, which has produced a string of popular artists including Thundercat, Taylor McFerrin, and Teebs. Flying Lotus has received critical acclaim for albums such as Cosmogramma (2010), Until The Quiet Comes (2012), and You’re Dead (2014). You’re Dead in particular set personal sales records all over the world and was praised as a masterpiece of 2014. In 2017, he expanded his range of activities even further, directing his own movie, titled “Kuso,” and producing music for “Blade Runner Black Out 2022,” an anime directed by Shinichiro Watanabe.
